For the first time legal maximum levels for acrylamide in certain food categories shall be implemented according to Reg. 1881/2006. The corresponding Draft Regulation SANTE/10478/2020 will be presented to the Standing Committee (Section: Novel Food and Toxicological Safety) on 23/06/2020 for vote.
Legal maximum levels shall be implemented for the following foodstuffs for infants and young children:
- Biscuits and rusks for infants and young children: 150 µg/kg
- Baby foods, processed cereal based foods for infants and young children excluding biscuits and rusks: 50 µg/kg
According to the Draft Regulation the above mentioned legal maximum levels shall apply from 01/01/2021 on EU-level. However, foodstuffs listed in the Annex of the Draft Regulation that were lawfully placed on the market before 01/012021 shall remain on the market until 01/07/2021.
