At its 93rd workshop, the ALTS ("Arbeitskreis der auf dem Gebiet der Lebensmittelhygiene und der Lebensmittel tierischer Herkunft tätigen Sachverständigen”) and the ALS ("Arbeitskreis Lebensmittelchemischer Sachverständiger der Länder und des Bundesamtes für Verbraucherschutz und Lebensmittelsicherheit”) jointly decided to publish updated threshold levels for the allergens soy, celery, lupin and mustard and to adapt to the recent recommendations of the Joint FAO/WHO expert consultation on risk assessment of food allergens.
These threshold levels serve as basis for the evaluation of analytical findings of undeclared allergens for official laboratories of food authorities and are intended to provide guidance as to the level at which a declaration obligation as an ingredient in accordance with Regulation 1169/2011 (LMIV) must be checked for an allergen that has been detected but not declared or only declared as “may contain…”. The exact threshold levels are found here.
